Berlin-Schöneweide (part of Berlin-Köpenick), where the Willi29 student residence and the HTW are located, was Europe’s largest industrial area until World War I. (AEG, Siemens, and later Kabelwerk Oberspree – KWO, Transformatorenwerk – TRO, Werk für Fernsehelektronik – WF…). The many clinker and brick buildings still bear witness to these glorious times. Currently, these buildings are used for studios, start-ups and the HTW, which attracts young people. Schöneweide, which is undergoing major change, is reminiscent of the early 1990s in Berlin’s districts.

An excerpt from reviews that have reached us over time through various channels:

I lived in the Willi29 student residence for four years and have nothing but good things to say about it. The rooms have everything you need, as do the kitchens and bathrooms. The rear part of the building is quieter, but the shared apartments are smaller (3-4 people). Whenever there were any problems, the property management company always worked quickly to find a solution.

The HTW is on the same street. It’s only a 5-minute walk away. There’s a hairdresser and supermarket right next door. A burger joint is a 2-minute walk away. The guys were very funny and the women taught us to be tidy. It was a bit difficult at first, but in the end it worked out for everyone. Great property management – always available and quick to respond.

I come from Spain and have been living at Willi29 since 2023. My roommates have been very welcoming. The proximity to HTW is great, as is the proximity to the forest. You can go jogging, swimming, cycling, and party in Schöneweide.

The students were very supportive, as my German was still very poor at the beginning. We mostly spoke English, but then increasingly German. The rooms are a bit small, but very cozy and stylishly designed. We mostly sat in the kitchen and talked and laughed a lot. Even though I’m not studying, for me it’s the perfect place to settle in Germany.
